Ekoplekz - Westerleigh Works EP (Perc Trax)

Jefe

Ekoplekz is a Bristol-based producer, specialising in improvised audio experiments, performed completely live using a multitude of analogue effects, drum machines and filters. Since his breakout 12” on Punch Drunk in 2010 he has since released a live album on Further and a compilation of older tracks on Mordant Music. He also returned to Punch Drunk this year to serve up his debut album ‘Intrusive Incidentalz Vol.1’. Echoing and updating the classic sounds of Cabaret Voltaire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Ekoplekz pushes these sounds into the future and his releases this year have led to a stream of live bookings across Europe.

Across the 3 original tracks here Ekoplekz fuses together deep dub bass with almost tribal rhythms, comprised purely of analogue distortion. Echoing bleeps and drones add additional atmosphere and Ekoplekz even serves up a rare moment of melody on the haunting ‘Xylem Teardrops’. To complete the package Perc Trax and Perc are proud to have a remix from the legendary Richard H. Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire, a personal hero of Perc’s and of many other artists on the label. Richard takes ‘Narco Samba’ and dubs out the original parts adding vintage drum machine rhythms to the mix, harking back to Artificial Intelligence-era Warp.
